BSL III Lab, Neil Crawford Center
The building is located on the Neil Crawford Provincial Centre site adjacent to the O. S. Longman Laboratory. It is a 2925 m2 building that is composed of a BSE lab, Bacteriology/Virology lab, Generic lab, small animal holding area, storage spaces, two boardrooms (one inside containment and one outside), shower facilities, office space, perimeter corridor and mechanical & electrical support spaces. The total level 3 containment space is 685 m2. The total mechanical and electrical service space is 1050 m2.
Commissioning:
The entire building HVAC systems were extensively tested under all operating conditions and the result recorded to provide verification of the results. The ability of the building to operate under reduced airflow while maintaining safe differential airflow was tested and verified. The commissioning documentation forms an essential part of the CFIA laboratory certification process. A thirty day test was carried out to ensure the reliability of the systems and to allow the laboratory personnel to become acquainted with daily building operation.
