U of Alberta Electrical Engineering and Computer Research Facility / Education Teaching and Learning Center (ECERF/ETLC)
ECERF/ETLC are two buildings joined together through an atrium and provide space for research and teaching in the Electrical and Computer Engineering field.
ECERF (Electrical and Computer Engineering Research Facility) is designed to accommodate administrative and research activities. The building is approximately 17,507 m2 over seven floors with two levels of below grade parking. A micro fab lab and support area is located on the main floor with Faculty Project Laboratories located on the upper floors.
The Electrical Engineering Facility houses:
- A major microfabrication Class 100/1,000 clean room laboratory (one of the largest University clean rooms in North America at a size of 604 m2).
- A large Class 10,000 clean room laboratory.
- Laser, plasma and electromagnetics research laboratories with space for approximately 70 graduate students and research associates.
ETLC (Engineering Teaching and Learning Center) is a six-storey structure approximately 17,006 m2 and accommodates lecture theatres, engineering computer laboratories and the administration offices of the Faculty of Engineering.
Both facilities were completed in the fall of 2000 and were $1M under budget.
